Years ago I discovered a tiny little purple Rock Of Kindness in the Pacific Northwest and was both delighted and intrigued. A year later across the country in Boston, I discovered another one with the simple message “Shine” and was hooked. I gathered up my paints and pens and wrote messages of love and gratitude on over 100 rocks. My family took off in different directions throughout Laguna Beach one Thanksgiving night and stealthily deposited them on planter boxes, benches, signs, the boardwalk, in trees, etc. Later we couldn’t stop talking about how much fun it was to be part of someone’s future joy!
And so the story began.
I proceeded to hand out my small but mighty gifts of inspiration to friends as they traveled the globe. Imagine my glee when I received photos from India, Scotland, Chile, Columbia, Poland, the Netherlands as well as across the United States. Since forming our Kindness Rocks group this summer, our gifts have reached France, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, among other destinations.
Newly formed this summer, our #RockOnLB project is the culmination of good friend Suzanne Redfearn and my brainstorming the best way to pull together likeminded kindred spirits whose goals are to simply to be creative- sending out hope and happiness on perfect little pieces of this Earth.
Our group recently really blanketed the town of Laguna Beach. Thousands of hand painted stones were discovered the morning of Touch A Heart Tuesday, August 28th.
We are hearing firsthand accounts of a discovery brightening up one’s day when they most needed it, of locals wanting to participate in future paint parties to pay it forward, of visitors wanting to take this concept of passing on peace and positivity back to their own hometowns and expanding the message.
My goal of sharing light, love and beauty with others is a story which I hope will find it’s way into your heart, perhaps inspiring you, if even in a small way, to begin your own chapter and help another soul out there to SHINE!
